at full speed

should the canyons burn
all night long like the forth of july
we won't need an alibi
there's gas in the car, hours til sunrise
there's no guarantee
leaving town's gonna set us both free
staying here, its just not what we need

because america shines, yes it does
in between the white lines, well i found love
going no where
at full speed

i have traveled far
and i've seen things that i'd rather not say
when you're traveling its better that way
the darker the secret, the harder you'll keep it
its no victory
always running away like i do
always know that i'll come back to you
always know that i'll come back to you

because america shines, yes it does
in between the white lines, i found love
all alone on a road, going nowhere
going nowhere, going nowhere
at full speed, at full speed

and should the canyon's burn
i'm catching a ride off the coast

i've come to realize, with this song, why anything andrew mcmahon writes resonates deep within me. nostalgia strikes me deeper than i can really put into words. andrew, i think, knows what this means. because his songs, whether something corporate, whether jack's mannequin, whether just him, are covered in nostalgic feeling through and through. from the polaroid camera he takes with him places, to the vintage cars, to the button down plaid shirts, to the images of an old california, he places nostalgia of better times in the hearts of his listeners. and even if its just me, i think he's succeeded. hes made ME feel something lasting.

there's something about that nostalgic feeling that has me weak in the knees and longing for january 15.
