thanks for the comments, guys!

this marks the... somewhat halfway point for tonight, but not really. haha

i had an educational lecture this morning--it was on concerts and what can go wrong. it was interesting, because essentially it was a large room with 50 or so 'concert committee directors' from around the country, and it was all of us sharing terrible experiences/problems/issues we've had with our concerts in the past, what we need help with now, and future problems we can forsee. then we kind of went around and talked about how to solve these problems, how to increase attendance, different promo ideas, how to deal with cracked out and wasted bands, etc. it was really insightful!

i just got back from hearing from a few bands and comedians, and scored a computer in the 'business section' to check the comments and update you guys.

i'm getting ready now to head into the marketplace, which is a huge room with hundreds of booths representing labels, bands, speakers, activities, etc. its kind of a free for all and its where you talk to agents to make things happen. so its good to know you guys like FLOREZ (because i too think they'd be INCREDIBLE for a lawn concert). i'll swing by their booth and talk to the agent some.

i just got done listening to a handful of bands, a lot of them hailing from the same genre - acoustic and female. they were alright, but one sounded EXACTLY like a mixture of regina spektor and colbie caillat, so it wasn't anything original. the other sounded like a less popular version of kate voegle, so who knows.

i wasnt too impressed.

this one dude could REALLY belt it out, and he was good, however he sounded like tyrone wells and didn't really talk to the audience at all, i think he said something once. so thats kind of a bummer.

however, here's an idea:
i was talking to callie (who is on SAB and is currently the director of cultural arts on campus). she said she's had an idea for awhile for concerts and cultural arts to 'team up' and make a coffeehouse in the rasdall gallery (cultural arts is responsible for the rasdall gallery in the student center). so, essentially, we'd bring the band, they'd bring the location, and we'd supply a night of coffee, conversation, and music. LET ME KNOW WHAT YOU THINK ABOUT THIS IDEA. the dude who just sang would be great for this!

here's the people i just saw, if you want to check them out:

anthony david (the coffeehouse dude)
alex winston (lesser known kate voegele)
jessica sonner (regina/colbie)
jupiter one (the singer also played the VIOLIN, a chick played the keyboards, and it was kinda cool!)

AND CHECK OUT FLOREZ!
because you guys expressed interest and i want to make sure more than 3 people (including myself) are onboard.

peace out!

Ok i checked them out and heres what i think (with a ranking out of 10, 10 being best):

--forever the sickest kids (8): my favorite out of what you posted. I think they would do well here.
--dick prall (5): was a bit too soft for me but i think he would be a good lawn show for the spring to celebrate the season because he has a summery/spring feel to his music. Don't know how big of a crowd he would draw though.
--anthony david (7): Love the idea of a coffee n concert thing and i think he would do really well here.
--florez (6): I appreciate the vocals and believe they would be more suited for a lawn concert.
--Jupiter One (1): in a word, scary. Did not like at all. They call themselves rock?!

Would love to see some music from a harder rock scene.

PS: all your posts were at 10 pm-ish and last night i checked this blog at 9:57, wtf i was so close.

I love the coffeehouse idea! :]

Rankings 1-10, ten being the best.

i love forever the sickest kids!(9)I've been listening to them for awhile and i agree that they would do really good here because they're really upbeat, fun, and catchy. Def a good band for the cats den or something.

Dick prall(7) is different, a good mellow different, he wasnt my favorite but i definetly think his voice and style would make a great outdoor artist.

Anthony David(9.5)- LOVE him. Lawn concert or coffee shop, i think he'd work in both really really well. Love love love him.

Florez (7)- They were alot more mellow than i was expecting. I think they'd be awesome as an outdoor concert becuase they're a little more upbeat and nice to listen to. I approve.

Jupiter one (9)- They are awesome, i think the techno aspect is a nice combination with the pop/rock, r&b, acoustic stuff the rest of artists are. I think they would work awesome in the coffee shop setting.

Overall Forever the sickest kids was my favorite, but i would go to a show with any of the artists you gave us to listen to.

Keep them coming, hope (even though i know you are :]) your having a blast!

p.s. I love forever the sickest kids alot, but i just read your previous post where we could get another band who is more well done from the same genre and get a bigger crowd, like anberlin or something ;]
I would push for a bigger band if we could get them.

ok, two cents done for tonight.

I would love the coffee house idea and I love the kinda relaxed, chill, soulful feel Anthony David gives. I really like that sound. I would really enjoy that coffee house night if we could pull it together. I could see a lot of people coming out to it if we have he right promoting for it which shouldn't be too hard because we'd have two committees promoting it
